PSTN is the Public Switched Telephone Network, the normal phone network, often called the land line network. It's sometimes called the “Plain old Telephone System” (POTS).
The PSTN is a ‘hard wired’ connection based on copper wires forming a circuit between the two phones involved in a call. These phones do a specific task based on efficient communication of voice signals. The PSTN has been in service for around 100 years.
The PSTN needs vast lengths of copper wire, connected to local exchanges, and is good at the dedicated task it performs (telephony) but not so good at handling the needs of telecoms in the Information age, such as VoIP, or other fast digital transfer.
Odyssey has been working with PBX interfaces to the PSTN for many years, and we can provide the most secure, reliable connections, backed up by a dedicated team of visiting service engineers, and office based customer service staff.
