The quality of telephone signals across the PSTN is very high, and the system is a relatively low cost system, particularly with the low call charges available to Odyssey customers.
Because PSTN is not an IP or software based system it is much more secure from attack by computer virus or through denial of service.
PSTN has been very successful over the last 100 years. For a service which is dedicated to telephony it provides:

- Almost universally available even with older connections.
- Carries its own power supply for phones.
